Tutankham, Thomson MO5 Computer
A downloadable game
Released by Konami in arcades in 1982, Tutankham was an early maze-action game built around exploration, keys, locked passages, treasure and relentless creatures.
It also started a small chain of inspiration that eventually reached me.
Tutankham heavily inspired Bill Dunlevy and Harry Lafnear when they created Time Bandit, first released for the TRS-80 in 1983. The game later evolved through the TRS-80 Color Computer and eventually reached the Atari ST, where I discovered and played it for the first time.
I loved Time Bandit long before I knew anything about its origins.
Years later, discovering that its roots could be traced back to Tutankham made the original Konami arcade game feel strangely familiar — almost like uncovering an ancestor of a game from my childhood.
So this project is both a tribute to Tutankham and, indirectly, to Time Bandit: going back to the game that helped inspire the game that inspired me.
